Peter Mignin was born and raised in downtown Chicago; now residing in Los Angeles. With a still-camera in holster since a toddler, Mignin's concentrations are: visual storytelling, digital media, and dramatic cinema. Graduating from Tulane University where he first edited digitally. In Louisiana he shot/directed/edited a mini-documentary about Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath.
Mignin (Min-yin) decided to further pursue filmmaking at USC's school of cinematic-arts in Los Angeles, enrolling in summer classes concerning cinematography and screenwriting. He went on to earn a degree in Digital-Cinema in Chicago, at DePaul University. In school he worked at the cage as a camera, lighting, and software technician, later promoted to shift-manager also earning a graduate-student work scholarship his final quarter. In Chicago he earned a masters in film production with a concentration in cinematography and with Golden Key honors.
Immediately after film-school, Pete pursued an internship at Brooklyn Fireproof film studios in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In NYC he worked behind the scenes as an office-PA and reached out as a freelance electrician and stagehand. He sharpened his skills in the lighting department of the independent-feature The Boarding House, starring Nick Stahl and Alicia Witt. He was also working on the lighting-teams for the following music-video clients in NYC: The Ready Set, Phantogram, RaRaRiot, Freelance Whales, and The Joy Formidable.
Pete brought his film-production talent to Los Angeles, CA in 2011. He has jumped on many film crews in the west, designing lighting for clients such as: Joss Whedon, Gatorade, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Dominic Disaia. In L.A. he has worked on indy-feature films such as: Much Ado About Nothing, Just Pretend and The Mummy Resurrection. The following Directors of Photography helped Mignin sharpen his cinematography: Julio Macat, Jay Hunter, Pete Biagi, Mike Ragen, Adam Bricker, Elie Smolkin, Matt Garrett, Kevin Hayden and Scott Thiele.
